If you are unfamiliar with ‘A Thousand Miles’ by Vanessa Carlton, you are either actually 12 years old or have been living under a rock for the past 23 years. The song has been created into a meme over and over and over again, mainly because of its iconic first line, «making my way downtown, walking fast, faces pass, and I’m homebound.» It’s also one of the catchiest songs of the 2000s…I always associate it with ‘Pocketful of Sunshine’ for that exact reason. If you’re only familiar with Carlton from this one song, I would highly recommend checking out the sleeper hit (at least in my house), ‘White Houses.’ It’s everything you would want in a song about losing your virginity made in an indie-pop context.
