Marriage: an institution that many of us resent and a possibly equal number of us buy into. And sometimes that Venn diagram is a circle. It’s one of those human things that we keep doing for centuries upon centuries, and we’re not totally sure why. Sure, the traditions have evolved over that time. Women are no longer seen as property (hopefully), but we still keep up with a lot of the ancient rites. We take vows, we make promises, we wear rings. And for many, it’s completely worth it. But these things alone do not a marriage make. It requires a lot of blood, sweat, tears, and taking out the trash when you don’t want to.
