There are a few days in the year when it’s really really fun to be on Twitter. The rest of the time we’re just aimlessly searching for something to inspire us and usually coming up empty. We wait for something exciting to happen that validates our need to be there scrolling.
Then there are the days when they’re choosing a new Pope. Days like that are really fun. Everyone is at the ready, cracking jokes at the drop of a hat, all riffing on one subject like some kind of gigantic writer’s room. These are the days when you indulge your impulses to keep checking in because your searches are most often rewarded. New jokes just keep rolling in and you’re hungry for them like you’re hungry for lunch. It’s an adrenaline rush seeing them roll in, seeing who gets the most likes, seeing who is first to make the obvious jokes.
