The right tweet can change your life. You might think it’s just a silly little sentence that means nothing and might even make the world worse in some cases. And there are plenty of tweets that are like that. I mean, think of the volume of tweets that are tweeted in a day. It can’t always be gold. But every now and again, something amazing reaches us. Something funny, poignant, and totally worthwhile comes around and stays with us forever.
I’m thinking of the tweet, «almonds is wood.» That tweet probably came out at least a couple years ago, and I have never been the same since. Every time I eat an almond, I think about it. It changed my relationship with the material world around me. And isn’t that what the best literature should do? Shouldn’t it change the way we interact with our surroundings? This is what the great poets, novelists, and essayists wanted. They just couldn’t imagine that a tweet could do all of that.
