Society doesn’t give people a life script for after they retire, especially if they do it when they’re young.
After all, when it was first introduced, the expectation was that most retirees would not live long enough to enjoy the full benefit of their pension. So long as those who retire are healthy and have a reasonable amount of savings, there really is no limit on what they can do if they want to. The world is truly their oyster.
This is even more applicable to those who worked hard and/or got lucky, enabling them to stop working at a time when most of their peers are at their maximum level of grind. They have the privilege to be able to do all those things that those who are still working wish they had the hours in the day for, the kind of stuff that causes real regrets once they are too old for it.
That being said, it is also totally normal to want a break after working hard to reach this goal for so long. The important thing is that the lifestyle is well-adjusted to a person’s circumstances, and those around them who may be affected by their retirement.
