If you were lucky enough to be watching the Grammys during Lady Gaga’s surprise music video/ Mastercard tie-in «Abracadabra,» then you know how iconic of a moment it was. The song is instantly catchy, dynamic, and a soon-to-be dance floor staple from the queen of dance floor staples. The chorus scratches an itch in my brain that I didn’t even know that I had. And hearing Lady Gaga say the word «Gaga» in a song sends a chill right down the spine. But what exactly does the word «Abracadabra» mean?
In the song, it’s an incantation said «by a lady in red.» We mainly hear it in reference to magic- it’s the go-to spell to cast when you’re trying to summon a rabbit out of a hat. It does have a very magical lilt to it. Even typing it is a journey for your fingers. Try it. Abracadabra. Your fingers go back and forth in such a rhythmic and beautiful way.
