There are some texts you never want to receive from your parents. I always get filled with dread when my mom texts me, «Are you home?» I’m not one of those zoomers who is afraid of talking on the phone, so her asking, «Can I call?» doesn’t frighten me at all. I know my mom wouldn’t text me tragic news or call to inform me of said tragic news if I was out in public. So when she says, «Are you home?» I can only assume that someone has passed away or is ill.
Some texts are so tragic that you’ll never forget them. My friend was listening to one of her favorite Nicki Minaj songs when the text came in that her aunt had passed away, and now she can’t listen to that song anymore without feeling weird about it. To me, the more unmemorable a text is, the better.
