When a family is well-functioning, when every member of the family contributes equally and cares about each other wholeheartedly, there is not much you would not do for each other. If you truly are a united family, nothing can stand in your way, and it is a beautiful, yet extremely rare, thing to have.

It’s so rare because no one prepares you for how much work you need to put in to have a strong bond with your family. Sure, some of it happens naturally, but just like with every other relationship in your life, if you’re not willing to put in the work, it’s not going to last very long. Not only that, without the work there are also no ‘benefits’. You can’t expect your family to make sacrifices for you if you are not willing to do the same, which is the problem with many families out there, whose members think their family owes them something, even if they give nothing in return.
