‘I loaned them money twice… they haven’t paid a dollar back’: Entitled parents shame 22-year-old daughter for buying her boyfriend an expensive birthday gift, insist she could’ve given them the money for bills instead

Parents are supposed to provide for their children, even if the budget is tight. Their children didn’t ask to be born into this world, so it’s only right that you make their lives a bit easier while they’re figuring out how to exist as a person. Yes, finances are turbulent. However, part of being a parent is providing. So, if any parent thinks that their kid should be providing for them before their child blows out the candles on their 18th birthday, you might not be cut out to take care of another human being. Kids are not servants—they are kids. Disallowing them to exist as such will just make your relationship with them worsen down the line.

This is happening in the next story you’re about to read. Of course, teaching your kids financial literacy is important. But, expecting your child to give you money for bills and other household needs as you see fit is a stretch for any kid. Or, telling them they can’t spend their own money as they see fit. Pocket-watching your children is… a choice, to say the least.
