A name can say a lot about what a person thinks of themselves and the world, and not just when it comes to what they want to call themselves. They can also reveal multitudes with the ways in which they refer to other people. There are plenty of people who go by nicknames or shortened versions of their full name, but who gets to use those names or indeed choose their own is often a pretty select group. Not everybody is going to appreciate those who try to enter that group, not least if their intentions seem impure.
