Deciding to leave a workplace that no longer works for you can be one of the hardest professional decisions to make.
We often think about quitting a job in a more positive sense, because somebody is retiring or has accepted a better offer at another company. However, there are numerous other, less happily-ever-after reasons that an employee may think to leave their current role.
The reality is, not every job is going to be a perfect fit. Even a so-called dream role may come with its downsides, and the hardest thing about that is figuring out whether it is worth putting up with them or not. As a general rule, if the struggles that come with a position outweigh the benefits and the salary, it is probably a good idea to move on.
That being said, even after this decision is made, things do not necessarily get much easier. It is not uncommon for management and coworkers to question whether you are doing the right thing and try to keep you right where you are. Remaining strong and doing what is best for you can be made into an extreme challenge. Willpower has to be relied on in these situations.
