A job that doesn’t appreciate your salary requirements isn’t likely to appreciate any of your other requirements, either.
Money is the reason that most people work, and as a result, you might think that companies would put a lot of effort into paying their employees fairly. In reality, though, a lot of employers do everything in their power to spend as little as they possibly can on salaries. There is no telling how much shareholder value there is to be had from an employee these days, so why invest that much in them?
The downside to being cheap when paying people is that a company is less likely to retain its higher-quality workers for long. They will make it a priority to start looking for a better deal sooner rather than later, and there is every chance that they will find it. While we all might be replaceable, the process of replacement can prove to be a painful one. If employers simply listened to employee requirements in the first place, they would not have to go through the inconvenience of hiring and rehiring for a role on a regular basis.
