Is it ever appropriate for work and family to mix?
It is hardly a secret that being a working parent can be difficult. The average full-time work schedule is not built with the need to do childcare in mind, and sourcing that childcare when you can’t do it yourself can prove to be painstaking and expensive. Those parents who work in a role that doesn’t give them the necessary level of flexibility are often put in a tough position.
That being said, if a mom or dad needs to work and also make sure that their kids are taken care of, they have no choice but to figure it out. After all, the salary is what allows them to maintain the children in the first place. While this may come with some sacrifice, that is just another part of parenthood. Any decent parent will put up with a less-than-ideal situation for their kids.
Much of the time, coworkers will have some sympathy with parents who are struggling with their childcare options, as they know that it is a difficult situation to be in. However, they will only have so much patience with the issue if it is consistently brought right to their doorstep, and it feels like they can’t avoid the problem either.
