Don’t dish out workplace disrespect unless you expect it to be returned to sender.
We all know that there are plenty of bad managers in the workforce, and some of the worst are in the most overworked and poorly paid industries. The customers that employees have to deal with in sectors like retail or hospitality are bad enough without having to worry about satisfying the whims of a dictatorial supervisor at the same time.
It is not uncommon for a good chunk of people working in these types of customer-facing roles to be younger and less experienced, and management can look on this as an excuse to mistreat them and not expect to see any payback for it. However, if they push things too far, it is pretty much inevitable that they are going to face the consequences of their actions at some point.
While nobody should have to deal with the experience of working with an unpleasant boss, getting the chance to teach them a lesson can be satisfying. Although it might not make them any better at their job, it allows an employee to feel like their bad behavior was not allowed to go unchecked like it had before.
