Overworked wife refuses to clean house on Friday night so that her lazy husband’s friends can come over Saturday morning: ‘I run a home-based daycare for 12 hours a day. This requires a lot of cleaning all day long.’

Why should she have to clean the house when she’s been cleaning the house all day long?

Are you one of those people who are usually kind of blase about cleaning, but then freak out and clean everything when you’re about to have company over? If so, you’re just like me. I try to keep my space pretty clean, but I don’t think about it too deeply until I’m about to have a party, and all of my friends are about to see the gunk inside my bathroom. It’s kind of a pointless display of neurosis because over the course of the house party, everyone is going to make the bathroom gross again, so I’ll have to clean it again immediately after cleaning it the first time. Still, it’s nice to think of your guests and their comfort at your home. You don’t want to go to a party where the house is gross and unclean. You don’t want to spend the night at your aunt’s house when you know that there are Cheerios on the floor from back when her grown kids were in diapers. Or maybe you don’t care, like the husband in this story, who doesn’t care if his house is a mess when company comes over to visit.
