Food both sustains us and entertains us.

Just because we need it to live doesn’t mean that it has to be boring, and that is the premise that pumps billions of dollars into the industries that give us our groceries, restaurants, and takeout. While most of us cycle through the same few meals week after week, even finding the know-how and mental energy to come up with those reveals that, for the most part, people care about enjoying what they eat. It can be a brief reprieve from all of the annoying parts of existing; there is a reason that they call it comfort food.

We are fortunate to exist in an era where, at least in a place like the US, many different types of cuisine are available to us with just a little awareness and effort. We can try to recreate food from all around the world if we so wish, and failing that, we can probably get DoorDash that caters to whatever we feel like. The limit is our imagination, location, and the skill level that we are willing to rise to.

At the same time, sometimes it is the boring, everyday stuff that we make that is also the food we most enjoy. So long as it brings us something positive, it is worth recognizing and celebrating. Just like most things, it is also important to have a sense of humor about it, and memes that deal in cooking and food are here to help us with that.
