Coworker brings their dog to work, lets them use the bathroom inside the office: ‘The dog doesn’t like going to the bathroom outside’

Dogs in the office are an awesome addition to your day, but only if they’re well-behaved.

It can be a nice treat to have a dog in the office. It helps break up the monotony of doing the same thing all the time. And it can be awesome to have a little furry friend running around. Who doesn’t want to play with a dog while taking a break from your work tasks? It’s a win-win for pet owners who then don’t have to look for pet care during the day. But like anything at work, there needs to be some boundaries in place first. There weren’t, and that turned out to be a pretty big issue. When dog owners don’t look after their pets properly, it harms everyone in their path. Nobody wants to be a witness to that, especially at work.

When you’re dealing with other people’s pets, you might want to have some boundaries in place. You’re entitled to a clean workspace that doesn’t interfere with your work life. That’s the point of an office. You’re supposed to be able to come there and work distraction-free. That means not having to deal with other people’s animals. Sure, you might put up with something every now and again, but the minute it starts making you do a bad job, you’re allowed to question it. You’re allowed to want to work in an office that doesn’t have animals relieving themselves in it. This is not an insane, out-of-pocket guess. That’s what was happening in this story, and the people involved had a lot to say about it. They needed outside perspectives to give their thoughts on the situation because they weren’t sure if it was normal or not, and how they should proceed if it wasn’t. Sometimes we just need a little more input from people outside of our own direct lives. Especially in the workplace, where how we handle things might have a direct impact on our careers and our lives.
