Weather is a terrifying and beautiful thing. If you, like me, grew up in a place that would get tornado warnings every summer, you know this to be true. On one hand, you get to hole up in your basement and feel super cozy while the world shakes outside. On the other hand, you’re like «Um, what if a tornado actually comes?» And if you’ve had the misfortune of actually surviving a natural disaster, you really know this.
Humans are the most powerful beasts on Earth, but we are powerless to weather. We can build all the homes we want, bring all the umbrellas, and invent all the transportation devices we’d like to, but if a huge weather event comes along, we’re simply subject to its whims. It reminds us that humans are indeed fallible, and there are limits to what we can achieve. This is comforting to me. Just like memes are comforting.
