The discovery of fire and the beginnings of cooking food are often pinpointed as one of the most important steps forward in human history, and it’s not difficult to see why. I mean, who among us does not feel slightly in awe of the ingenuity found in our fellow people when we think about just how many different ways it is possible to serve a potato? 

For all that it is easy to trash each other, food brings us together for a reason, and that is because quite a lot of us are mighty good at making it do delicious things. There are also plenty of people who can’t even boil an egg, but for the most part, they can get by on the fact that the world has so many other chefs.
