If there is one thing that can be learned after spending a good part of your life immersed in the ridiculous world of memes, it’s that you can never quite predict what’s coming next. Even the most seasoned meme enthusiasts have wildly different tastes and ideas. The next big trend might make perfect sense in hindsight (when you know your internet trends), but its rise is often fueled by how unexpected it is in one way or another. Memes can be traced, but not truly forecasted, even when they are in response to current events. 

This unpredictability is what brings them their classic chaotic air. Even with careful documentation, some inevitably slip through the cracks. In the end, it’s often easier to just let them wash over you as something as endlessly repeatable as it is fleeting. That’s what they’ve always been for, or at least that’s how most people see them.
