As somebody who spends a heck of a lot of time looking at them, I’m here to tell you this: memes are not really that relaxing. They involve having to process several different levels of humor, irony, aesthetics and communication all at once, sometimes changing completely from one meme to the next. Sometimes, you get the jumpscare of going from something funny to something undeniably cringe, or a point you agree with to an image that is blatantly offensive.

In conclusion, it’s a real trip. Still, we have to look on the positive side of things. Never before in human history have we learned to process so much varied information at once, and even better, we do it for the sake of entertainment. It might not always be good for us, but we have to admit that it is pretty cool. Also, it can make you feel more important while you’re browsing a list of random memes.
