John Donne famously told the world that no man is an island, and rarely has a poem been more accurate in its conclusions. No matter how much some of us might want to isolate ourselves from everyone and everything at times, it is hard for most to live a satisfying life without the help of other people. 

Memes are an entertaining, everyday reminder of this. They might offer little more than some stupid humor that distracts us momentarily, but on a deeper level, they remind us that there are plenty of people out there who, just like us, enjoy wasting a little time with some relatable or absurd jokes. In a society that can often seem isolating, they are one small lifeline to everything that exists outside of us. The internet is still good for some things, and the vast range of silly memes that it offers up is one of them.
