My parents were the type of people to send you off to manners school if you forgot to say ‘please’. I once had a fork for everything. A fork for salad, a fork for the main dish, and a fork for dessert. I was informed that no good, self-respecting company would accept me as an employee if I put my elbow on the table (while I was eating, or otherwise). My parents were pretty solid, good people, but when it came to manners, they were total Karens.

Luckily, I now live alone and can eat however and wherever I want. Plus, I have a job, even though I put my elbow on the table. Would you look at that?
