Apartment Complex Ignites Debate By Publicly Shaming Households Late On Rent

Realistically, most of us are only a couple of missed paychecks away from not having a place to live. It’s not a nice thought, but it is an unfortunate reality — one that some people have a lot more experience with than others.

Dealing with many landlords can be a prickly experience at the best of times, but a tenant is never more aware of their importance as a cash cow than when they end up being late or lacking on rent. Their ability to sniff out when you’re $20 short but ignore that creeping black mold problem is nothing short of magical, and it can present itself in some unpleasant ways.

Case in point has been a viral video posted by @therichexperince. It depicts a pair of signs outside an apartment building. One states that rent is due, and the other shows the number of each unit, crossing off those who have paid and circling those who haven’t.

The move caused controversy among viewers, who couldn’t decide if they were impressed or horrified by this audacious act. One thing’s for sure, it can’t have felt good to be in one of those red circles.
