Being a roommate is more than just sharing a space with someone—it’s also about compromises and communication. You can’t just move in with someone and then expect them to live exactly the same way you do, and vice versa. People are different and that what makes humanity beautiful and complicated. So, when looking for a roomie, you should look for things that coincide with things like your level of cleanliness, your sleep schedule, etc. If you hate having dishes in the sink and always wash them after every use, then you’re not going to want to live with someone who is fine with having dirty dishes in the sink for a few days. If you like to have relaxing, laidback nights and go to bed early so you can get up early in the morning, then you’re not going to want to live with someone who is a night owl and doesn’t mind blasting the tunes until the sunrises.
See what I mean? You would think that is pretty obvious stuff, but sometimes you vibes so well with someone on a friend level, that you forget to check in on these kinds of things before moving in with them. Or sometimes you are so desperate for a roommate, for whatever reason—maybe you need to split rent—then you just take anyone who is available.
