We all have hobbies that bring us unexplainable amounts of joy. Your hobby might be knitting, running, or watching multiple movies in a row without getting up for a single bathroom break. Whatever your special interest might be, it’s safe to say that you’d be upset if it were ripped away from you, right? What about the hobbies that rely on output, like gardening or writing? If your first draft manuscript were set on fire, you’d be inconsolable. So, if someone decides to harvest all the precious produce from your fruit and vegetable garden, you’ll likely be fuming with anger.
Some adults live their entire lives without learning basic human decency and respect. They believe that because they are older, or think they are wiser, younger people are not owed a similar amount of respect. The golden rule doesn’t exist to them… it never did.
You see this happen a lot with family. The patriarchs and matriarchs take what they want and expect everyone to be okay with it, so much so that their own entitlement acts as blinders for their disrespectful behavior.
