BeReal is an app that encourages people to show their «real life» online instead of a glamorized depiction of it often depicted on sites like Facebook or Instagram. Every day, the app prompts its users to take a picture at a random time of the day. Users must post before they can look at or interact with their friend’s posts. BeReal isn’t designed to be the typical social media app that keeps you scrolling for hours. It’s more focused on allowing people to see little snippets of their friends’ days and taking the pressure off social media. BeReal has been the subject of criticism for being a potential tool for stalkers and its buggy design. Despite this, the app doesn’t seem to be going anywhere and has thus been the subject of many memes.
