‘Situationship’ is such a contemporary word that it sometimes gets a red squiggly line under it when you type it. However, ask a millennial or Gen Z about their feelings on the idea, and their response may well start with the Feel Good Inc. laugh. At this point, it’s practically a rite of passage to get into a doomed romantic entanglement where one or both people aren’t willing to admit their feelings, leaving a big old mess at the end of it.

The phenomenon has been widely talked about on social media in recent months, with many pointing to 2019 as a vintage year for three month situationships that required years of therapy.
