Here in New York City, the weather is finally starting to warm up. This means I’m finally able to sit outside and enjoy the rare luxury of living somewhere with a backyard. Now, the shared space isn’t fancy. My neighbors like to party and leave evidence of that pretty much everywhere. But after I pick up their cans and straighten up the chairs around the fire pit, things don’t look half bad. And I can sit and watch the birds in peace. 

There’s a surprisingly diverse variety of avian life on our little Bushwick block. I’m regaled by the sounds of sparrows, cardinals, blue jays and titmice. We see flickers, robins, and warblers galore. We love a finch sighting and even the starlings that cause a ruckus wherever they go. Birdwatching, even in the city, is a joy. But when the weather sucks, and I can’t be with my bird pals, I have to get my bird time in other ways. My favorite way to get my fix? Bird memes like these.
