Boss asks employee to cancel nonrefundable vacation because it coincides with hers: ‘I calculated the fees, they are way more than a few hundred dollars’

Would you cancel a whole vacation just because your boss failed to plan?

There are plenty of reasons why you would want to go on vacation. It’s one of your rights as an employee. We need vacations to break up the schedule, or else you have nothing to look forward to. We need the carrot on the stick that is a vacation to keep us going. It’s part of a healthy work schedule. You need to take time away, or else you might run the risk of burnout. That’s why companies have PTO plans and ways for employees to take that time without affecting their careers. But just because you can take time off in theory doesn’t mean you can take time off in practice. Some employees know this all too well when it comes to taking time off.
