Candidate takes a week to consider job offer, recruiter has a biting response: ‘Please do not assume you still have an offer from us’

Deciding to accept a job offer is one of the biggest decisions you have to make in this life. Your job takes up so much of your life that’s not eating or sleeping that we better be sure we have the right one. Sure, you can always leave a job, but that’s a whole process. It’s kind of like getting married, I guess. Signing a job offer is like taking a vow. You’re committed. Rushing into either thing is not totally advisable.

You don’t want a Kim K/ Kris Humphries 72-day marriage kind of thing. Every job I’ve had, I’ve kept for more than 72 days, probably because I took a little time to consider what I wanted. It’s a reasonable thing. We need time and space to consider. But that’s not what happened in this recent story from an employee who was denied the grace to figure out what they wanted. But the comments were divided on whether or not this was justified.
