There’s nothing like a good barbecue with friends, especially in the summer. My neighborhood has a block party every year, and it’s a wonderful chance to get the kids together, eat some home-cooked food, and run around pelting everyone with water balloons. It’s good fun.

But, like anything, there is an etiquette to these kinds of functions. Everyone chips in a little bit of money to ensure the festivities, so uninvited guests are generally frowned upon. During the egg toss, don’t sabotage anyone else’s egg to help your chances. Finally, be mindful of how much food you’re taking. It’s always polite to take stock of everyone else at the party to see how much food is appropriate to take. You’d hate to be the one who cleans off a dish before someone else has the opportunity to get some. But one couple clearly didn’t internalize those rules and made some enemies in the process.
