Getting our hair done every day is a hard task. It gets tangled, a bit frizzy if you live in a humid climate, and most of the time it cannot be tamed. Sure, it can be a pain in the neck, but there can also be fun involved in it.
Curls are rebellious, that’s for sure, which gives them character. And now, with all the videos and hairdressers online giving their tips and tricks, we are learning to find a nice balance between the natural spirit of our hair and the control we need for everyday life.
When you think about it, it’s not a surprise that some millennials and Gen Z’ers grew up disliking their hair. Most moms didn’t exactly know how to take care of it. Even with their best intentions, they treated it like straight hair, and that left us looking like Simba from The Lion King. No wonder we felt bad. Besides, if you remember the trends at that time, straight, shorter hair was all the rage. And having movies like The Princess Diaries, where the protagonist was made to look ugly by curling her hair, definitely lowered some curly-haired girls’ self-esteem. It’s never nice to be told indirectly that what nature gave you is bad.
Don’t get me wrong, I still love that movie, and Anne Hathaway as Mia is iconic. But then again, the movie was a product of its time. So, for all of those who have already learned to love their hair, and for those who are starting their journey, this collection of memes is perfect for you!
