What’s wrong with taking $500?
Taking money from a family member can be a bag of worms. Even if it seems simple. The whole premise of the TV show Gilmore Girls is built around this. If you haven’t seen it, it’s about the estranged daughter of a rich couple who returns to their lives when her daughter needs money for private school. Her parents can pay for it, but it comes at an emotional Price. One that she isn’t sure if she’s willing to pay. The whole show is about the push and pull of the obligations of money and the needs of a young woman and her teenage daughter. All that to say, there’s a lot there. It might even be entitled to refuse money just because of the emotional implications, but if you’ve lived it, you know that they are real. That’s what happened in the story. But sometimes you just need to get over it and accept that people want to show you love through gifts sometimes. Not everything is a tactic of manipulation, and trying to get us such might close some doors that should actually stay open. Sometimes you need the advice of somebody outside of your immediate situation in order to get a perspective on it.
