‘Did you want me plop down and sit on it?’: 24-year-old drops iced coffee at work, busybody 55-year-old coworker tells her to clean it up as she’s already running to get paper towels, she snaps back

There is nothing worse than a backseat driver. You know this if you have one of them in your life. Maybe you work with them, maybe they’re in your family– whatever it is, you know. Backseat driving is the cousin of mansplaining. You’re in the middle of doing a task and someone (who isn’t involved in the task) takes it upon themselves to get involved and tell you what you’re doing wrong. They might not even be right, they just can’t resist the urge to be a control freak.

There are lots of these kinds of people in the workplace because sometimes the workplace rewards that kind of behavior. They’ve worked their way up by correcting everyone’s little mistakes without contributing much themselves. It’s the unfortunate reality. But the question remains, how do you deal with this kind of person? How do you put them in their place?
