It’s not our job to take a stance in the battle between butts and boobs. And we’re not trying to claim that one kind of body is better than another. But there’s no denying that there is a wealth of memes regarding both being thicc and appreciating the thicness. While the word seems to have gained considerable popularity in the last few years, the meme-y term actually started popping up in the early 2000’s. The earliest spotting was back in 2004 – on an Angelfire (feel old yet?) site dedicated to some of the era’s most popular hip-hop artists.

Since its popularization, and since the gradual rejection of very skinny and curvy skinny as the standard, the term has been debated, meme’d and made into the subject of think pieces. Obviously we’re mostly concerned with the memes. One of the most notable thiccness-related memes is «One Thicc Bih,» a meme starring Mr. Krabs and his big fat booty. Others feature thicc versions of everything from planet Earth (Thicc Earth, anyone?) to Aunt Cass.
