Employee demands whole office works harder, manager pleads for her to calm down: ‘She was calling me on her day off’

A genuinely chill working environment is something most employees can only dream of.

Nonetheless, it can exist. A combination of the right industry, the right working culture, and the right manager can combine to create the sort of workplace that actually seems to complement your life rather than take it over. For many people, that is what they wish all work could be.

However, this is not the kind of arrangement that suits everyone. The workaholics of this world are not going to be satisfied unless they feel that their professional role contains a significant level of stress. While we all benefit from those colleagues who live to work, it is not going to be compatible with these environments.

Dealing with an employee who wants to work too much may sound like the opposite of an issue for a manager, but that is highly dependent on how they fit into the bigger picture. If they are the only ones getting things done, then there is a problem in the company, but if they are the only ones overworking themselves, it is more likely to suggest that this is an issue with them. Addressing that while also making them feel like their productivity is appreciated can be delicate.
