What would you do if you couldn’t leave a job?

Your freedom is worth everything. And when you find yourself in a place that doesn’t value that, then it behooves you to get out of there. It might not be easy to do, but it’s necessary. That’s what this employee tried to do, and then was hit with the reality that leaving wasn’t as simple as he wanted it to be. Quitting a job takes a lot of gumption. It’s like a breakup- it’s not easy to tell someone, or a group of people, that you don’t want to see them anymore. It can get pretty awkward. So odds are you were pretty sure you wanted to leave if you ended up leaving. Everyone should respect that decision. But sometimes institutional holdups stop us in our tracks. We have to jump through way too many hoops to make something happen. It can hamper our feelings of autonomy and self-reliance. If external forces aren’t allowing us to do the things we need to do, then it’s easy to get discouraged. We don’t want to have to keep explaining ourselves day after day. We just want to proceed with our plans and live our lives. We’re not always allowed to do that, though, and it can be frustrating. That’s what happened to the employee in this story, who found himself in a strange situation at work.
