When you’re someone’s houseguest, there are a few rules you have to follow. Sure, there are the basic ones like don’t make a mess and bring them a hosting gift, but then there are others that can be more difficult to intuit. Your host probably wants to make you feel welcome, and part of your job is to let them do that. People like to feel useful, and if you refuse all of their favors, then they might end up resenting you. So when someone offers you a cup of coffee and you’re a coffee drinker, take it! But hold up, you’re asking if they have cold foam and sugar-free vanilla syrup? Bro, back off. This isn’t Starbucks. 

One woman didn’t quite understand that when she was staying at her in-laws’ house after water damage made her home unlivable.
