Family refuses to invite cousin to 4th of July BBQ after her behavior at last year’s event, Mom stands up for her: ‘You’re being mean’

What could she have possibly done to get herself uninvited to the family BBQ?

The 4th of July is a day that many people celebrate with their families. It’s many people’s favorite holiday simply because of its simplicity and because of how it makes them feel at home. The family gets the BBQ out, sets up the picnic table in the backyard, and simply enjoys each other’s company. We don’t know about you, but we find a lot of comfort in holidays like these.

It must be such a bummer to find yourself excluded from your family to the point that they don’t want to invite you to their 4th of July celebration. But if that happens, well, it might be time to look at yourself and understand what it is that you’re doing wrong, and how you could be better by next year’s family event.

The cousin in the story below has two roles in the family. Obviously, she has the role of a family member, but she also works as a caregiver to her uncle, so she comes to his house every day for a few hours. The entire family admits that she’s a very helpful caregiver, even though she is quite loud and highly opinionated. Their main issue is with her boundary issues, which she displayed to a great degree at last year’s 4th of July BBQ.

Whilst she was invited, she opted out of attending after telling the family she would rather enjoy her day off alone. However, she ended up coming to the BBQ after all, and proceeded to judge every decision made at the event, and even changed things last-minute. The family couldn’t understand why she decided to show up and cause chaos, but they couldn’t stop her from doing so.

This year, the family is planning the upcoming BBQ, and instead of inviting the cousin and ending up in the same situation, they came to the conclusion that it might be better not to invite her at all. Some agree, some think it is mean. Scroll down to take a side.
