The average cat both enjoys the privilege and carries the burden that comes from being the center of attention a lot of the time.

Whether it is wandering around, sleeping, or simply taking stock of its surroundings, it often attracts the curiosity of the people around it. Many cats are just so darn cute that people find it hard to leave them alone, even when they are just minding their own business. It is almost inevitable that someone will want to pet the kitty, regardless of whether it has shown any sign of wanting that.

A cat’s natural talent for attracting interest is a major reason why they are one of the animals translated most effectively into internet culture, particularly in the form of memes. They are already anthropomorphized plenty in everyday life, displaying behaviors that humans interpret as relatable or funny. When these moments are shared online, they only become even more entertaining. Even more people get to enjoy the ridiculousness of our feline friends.

As well as being adorable, many cats have strong personalities that make them a pleasure to watch while they go about their mundane business. Their occasionally silly actions lend themselves to the visual storytelling that memes favor. It goes further than humor, though, as many people feel emotionally attached to them beyond that. This enduring fascination ensures that cats continue to play a prominent role in the story of the internet, a part that up until now thankfully shows little sign of diminishing. For cat lovers everywhere, this ongoing celebration of feline humor is one of the best things about being a cat person in the present day.
