Do you know someone who’s added an hour of meditation into their schedule and has now become a bit of a spiritual guru? Maybe that’s because they’re healthmaxxing, prioritizing their spiritual and mental health for a change. Looksmaxxing, auramaxxing, and healthmaxxing are just a few examples of an extreme umbrella trend taking over the internet lately. What started as an over-the-top joke, maxxing in general has become more than just wordplay: It is a sign of extreme times.
Go all out or get left behind.
This cultural phenomenon reflects an entire generation’s mentality, both on TikTok and in the real world, to give 110% of their best efforts. Although we especially see these efforts allocated to seemingly menial tasks like jawline strengthening, 30-minute screentime breaks, and a moment’s reflection on snazzy wardrobe choices, Gen Z may be onto something.
Modern society rewards those who go to extremes, and for a generation that’s been steeped in an all-or-nothing mentality since birth, lifemaxxing every important aspect of their existence is the best way that young people will find balance. Although Gen Z’s future prospects feel dismal as thet trailblaze into the unknown, this trend is actually a wholesome reminder to always try your best. No matter how silly, pointless, or dumb it may seem, effortmaxxing is the antithesis of giving up.
