Children know when they’re being thought of after everyone else.
They pick up on things that we adults might not think they do. They’ve been absorbing our behavior for their whole lives, and they know when something is off. That’s why it’s important to make sure that everyone in your child’s life is treating them well. That doesn’t just mean you; that means everybody. You have to make sure their teachers are sending the right messages, their friends aren’t neglecting them, and their family is treating them right. The buck doesn’t stop at you.
That’s why some parents are protective of letting their children visit their parents. A grandparent can be a wonderful influence in a child’s life. They have access to a different generation’s wisdom and knowledge. Plus, they’re supposed to love you unconditionally, just like your parents. But not all grandparents are created equal. Some of them carry over the baggage from their children and make the next generation suffer. That’s what happened to this family, where a pair of grandparents couldn’t quite accept one of their own.
