How far does an open invitation really go when it comes to someone else’s pool?

It’s always funny how a kind gesture to a neighbor can turn into «taking advantage every time they can». In this case, we have a homeowner who was asked by her neighbor if she minded if her kids used her pool during the hot summer days, since she doesn’t have one. She told her that it was okay (a lovely attitude, let’s be honest) and taught her how to open the gate to access it.

Almost every time she used the pool, she would text her, and there was no problem with that, since the homeowner was at work, so there was really no issue. Now, this turned into a whole disaster during a random Saturday, when the homeowner received some notifications and alarms from her backyard camera. This was odd to her, since it only goes off when the yard is crowded.

When she checked, she noticed that the neighbor had thrown a whole birthday party for her daughter. Her garden was full of kids; there were balloons tied to the fence, and let’s just say that a lot of adults as well. She texted her, and the neighbor replied that she shouldn’t worry, since everyone would be gone by the time she arrived home. As if that would make any difference!

The homeowner rushed home and kicked everyone out with no hesitation. The neighbor asked if they could do the cake since her kid had been waiting all day… and of course she refused! Nobody apologized to her, only a random adult who thought that somehow using her pool was not okay.

The next day, the neighbor came to pick up a folding table and told her that the girl cried herself to sleep and asked her what kind of person ruins a kid’s birthday party, especially because she had been the one that allow them to use the pool. And I think that any sane person can agree that letting a woman with her kids use the pool doesn’t mean throwing random birthday parties without asking…
