Being a homeowner is a new experience for many adults these days, if they are even so lucky. So, when it comes to home maintenance, a lot of adults are depending on the internet. However, sometimes that doesn’t even help. When it came to this homeowner, it was a potentially-devastating leak in the walls that helped him figure out what a «useless lever» was for in his basement. He always passed it wondering what in tarnation is could be for. He eventually just figured it was meant for something that just doesn’t exist in the house anymore and had plans to remove it. Until one day that useless lever became very useful, in fact, it saved his home. 

He heard hissing and realized there was water pouring into his walls, hard water. That’s not the good stuff. So, he went to the levers he knew how to work, to shut the water off. However, even after switching off all of the water levers he knew off, he still heard the water pouring in. If this continued, his walls would be filled with hard water and he’d have to open them all up to prevent mold from growing and his wood from rotting. Luckily, he remembered the «useless» lever in the basement. And, lo and behold, when he switched that, the water stopped. It saved his whole home from disaster!
