Homeowner’s $3800 robot mower repeatedly damages neighbor’s pollinator garden, he demands they cover repair costs when they install edging to deter the mower: ‘Each time the mower damaged a larger section of the garden’

Many homeowners will defend their yard with as much dedication as a wild animal staking out their territory.

A person’s yard can mean many things to them; it is their own little patch of the great outdoors, a space to relax, or a way to show off to neighbors and passersby their enviable landscaping skills. Above all else, it is a piece of land they can call their own, and within reason, they should be allowed to do what they want with it without others encroaching on it and invading their space.

Without a doubt, it takes skill and dedication to keep a yard looking good no matter what the gardener’s preferred aesthetic is. Lawns require constant maintenance, so much so that lawn care is a $76 billion business in the US. On top of that, any kind of flowers, trees, and even decks are going to require attention to keep on looking their best.

With this in mind, it is not that surprising that people can get a little territorial about their gardens. It takes a lot of time and money to keep on top of them, and homeowners want to be able to enjoy the fruits of that labor without interruption. So long as they are maintaining their yards in a way that doesn’t have a negative effect on others, everybody deserves to be able to appreciate that space in peace. Their neighbors should be able to mind their own business and keep their own maintenance practices to their own property.
