Living with other people can be a pain in the neck, but there’s nothing that good laughter cannot fix! 

When we find ourselves having to move out alone, we figure out how expensive rent and daily life can be. Suddenly, the part-time job we got while we’re still in college is not enough, so what do we do then? We get a roommate with whom we can split all the housing costs. Sounds like a marvelous idea, right? Besides, we’ll get company! Yeah, we probably should think it through a little bit more… 

I’ve never actually understood the concept of moving in with a near stranger. Granted, I get it that moving in with one of our friends might not always be the best option. Their job is too far away, or they need to stay close to their family or whatever. If you ask me, it is a much better option to settle on a middle ground with one of your friends and find a place and an arrangement that works for both of you. After all, chances are you’ve known each other for years and are aware of each other’s usual habits. Having to accommodate someone you’ve never met before sounds insane to me, and that’s why most people end up with roommates they hate. They say at first: «Yeah, they seem like nice people; I’m sure we could make it work.» Big mistake. Huge. You have no idea how that person was brought up, and you won’t know if you are a good fit until you start living together. And guess what, once they move into your apartment, it’s nearly impossible to get them to leave. So, your best option here is to talk to someone you already know who has similar needs to yours and find a nice place in which to live together. And please, you have to establish some ground rules and actually FOLLOW them. That way, you’ll both live in peace.
