When we say we have nothing to wear, we know it is never true. It actually means that none of the existing clothes in our closet are suitable for the occasion.

My closet can be completely full, and I could still stand in front of it, waiting for a new outfit to magically appear out of nowhere. Or maybe I have something in mind, but my closet just doesn’t align with the outfit I pictured in my head. So I rummage through every drawer and every corner of my closet, hoping to find something that will get close to the idea I have in mind. Spoiler: I’ll never find what I want. And deep inside, I know I won’t find the clothes I want, but I search my drawers again and again all the same, trying on clothing combinations that I’ve never tried before, just to see if something can make it work for the occasion. I usually end up borrowing something from a friend. That’s the most common solution for us girls. And the easiest one when you have no time left. 

When you have time to prepare for an event, most probably you’d go shopping. Nothing in your closet will do. You have to get new clothes. And that’s when the journey starts, because shopping online or in person comes with a different set of problems. If you buy clothes online, clothing looks perfect on the website, but then you have to get the proper size and also expect the garment not to arrive looking like it was designed for another species. For real, no one understands size charts. They ask for measurements I have never taken in my life. Still, we are forced to have a go at it if we want to shop online. Whereas if you shop in person, you have to get out of your house, first of all. You have to visit different shops, try on different clothes, then compare prices and options you have in mind with the other shops you visited, and then finally reach a decision. And, most of the time, I run back to the first store I visited.
