Everyone has different relationships with money. If you grew up without an abundance of it, you might feel especially attached to your belongings and have developed a strong sense of independence. You couldn’t rely on anyone growing up, so you’re not in the habit of doing it as an adult. You also might bristle when someone tries to give you a handout– it might make you feel less than. On the other hand, if you grew up with no worries about money, then you might be freer with it. You may like to pay for other people, even if you don’t quite understand what it would mean for them.
If each of these types of people enter into a relationship together, then you might run into conflict. That’s what happened in this story when a wealthy man tried to do something nice for his girlfriend without her knowledge. He couldn’t quite anticipate her reaction, though.
