How hard will it be to find someone we actually want to be with?

There’s no telling when or where we’re going to find our person, but it’s definitely out there. We go on many dates with a lot of different people that we meet under different circumstances. Some were introduced to us by friends. Some others we met on a dating app, but no matter how we got to know them, it seems like no one is right for us. We keep going into these dates, hoping for the best and preparing for the worst. All because a small part of us still believes in finding that spark, that thing called everlasting love we were told was just a fantasy. 

Many of us grew up to be cynical and believe there’s no such thing as a «perfect match.» And don’t get me wrong, perfection doesn’t exist. We’re all humans with flaws and moments where we fail. But being imperfect doesn’t mean that we’re not capable of loving, or that we don’t deserve to form an honest and beautiful relationship with someone. That someone doesn’t need to be perfect; they need to be a real human being who understands us and is willing to take all the good and all the bad alike, and love us all the more for being real and true. 

Others are afraid of actually finding that person, feeling the spark, and then having the spark fade along with time. I’ll let you in on a little secret: the spark won’t fade if you don’t let it. All the things that make you love your partner are still going to be there, and if you keep that connection between you, no amount of time will make things boring. The longing glances, the sudden «I love yous,» the brushing of hands… All those little gestures keep you close, no matter how dumb it sounds. My parents have been together for twenty-five years, and they still act like they just started dating. It’s possible to have a real relationship if you truly want one. You just have to find a person who wants it too and work together to get it. It takes time and effort, but it’s totally worth it.
